The Iberian steppes are one of Europe’s most unique landscapes, but also among the most threatened. The lack of herbivory in these open ecosystems promotes the expansion of shrubs and trees, endangering species adapted to these habitats, such as the Dupont’s Lark (Chersophilus duponti).

To prevent the degradation of these ecosystems, in 2024 we developed a grazing plan in the province of Segovia, ensuring the maintenance of 300 hectares of well-preserved steppes. This work has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with eight local livestock farmers, with whom we have signed agreements to ensure appropriate grazing densities in these areas.

Extensive grazing is a key tool for biodiversity conservation. Through livestock activity, the expansion of shrub vegetation is prevented, and the open landscape is maintained, allowing species like the Dupont’s Lark to continue finding a home in the steppes.

We remain committed to securing the future of these unique landscapes and the species that depend on them. Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible!
